Collier Cobb (1862-1934) was chair of the Geology Department at the University of North Carolina, 1893-1934. His photography stemmed from his work in geology and other sciences, and he traveled extensively and used photography to document his interests. Lucy Plummer Battle (1861-1905), native of Wadesboro, N.C., was the daughter of Richard Henry Battle (1835-1912) and Annie Ruffin Ashe Battle (1838-1883). She was educated at St. Mary's School in Raleigh, N.C., and married Collier Cobb in 1904. Collier Cobb (1862-1934) was a native of Wayne County, N.C., a graduate of Harvard University, and a professor of geology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 1892-1933.
